Id go back to Usenet before I went back to mastodon. I do not need people yelling at me for not putting cat pictures behind trigger warnings or unwanted Linux advice
Hello, Leaflet!
No, not the JavaScript library for maps, but the writing platform that uses the AT Protocol. How many Leaflet posts are about Leaflet? Probably a lot. I heard Nostr is mostly just people talking about Nostr.
I'm smart in the sense that I know I don't know anything. I've been reading about the AT Protocol for a while and I still don't know what it is. Case in point: what does it mean for Leaflet to use the protocol? I've stared at the flowcharts and they're certainly logically consistent, but my understanding it lacks a sense of purpose. So here's me learning by doing; putting this tech into practice.
So far: I've set up my own PDS. Cool! I think? Like, what am I getting out of it? On the other hand, I set up DNS for my username and I am so into it... I wish this was a feature everyone adopted on Bluesky, but I think the #1 thing holding this feature back is the DNS providers themselves!
I love the idea of the Fediverse but with Mastodon the vibes are off. I made an account a lifetime ago, couldn't get into it. What I've heard from others does not inspire confidence:
My dream is to make a social network for the Philadelphia music scene. (Why? Because I hate Instagram that much.) Maybe this means making my own social media app that integrates with the AT Protocol. Maybe this means just making my own Mastodon server. Or maybe I say "forget it" to federation entirely and just make my own private app.
